IPL7: Punjab continues to dominate

Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to field in Mohali where the pitch was tailor made for batting. Virender Sehwag started in his typical fashion by taking 15 runs of the first over as Vikramjeet Malik who was playing his first match of the tournament felt the heat. Sehwag once again could not capitalize on the start and perished to Faulkner who struck in his very first ball of his first over. Manan Vohra and Shaun Marsh continued to take on the bowlers as Punjab once again were threatening to take the match away in the first 10 overs.

Vohra got out in the weirdest fashion, failing to make his crease and the replays clearly showed that he was complacent and took it easy which cost him his wicket. Marsh did not disappoint with the bat as he kept the scoreboard ticking before getting out to Malik on 40. Punjab lost a couple of wickets which pulled back the run-rate and at the end David Miller and George Bailey found the fence more often than not which gave them a more than competitive total of 180 to defend.

Royals did not quite get off to the best of starts as they Karun Nair early and although Sanju Samson and Ajinkya Rahane tried their level best to stitch together a partnership it never really threatened to take the match away. In the middle overs Rajasthan Royals lost their way by losing wickets and Rishi Dhawan’s double blow with the ball in hand made the job even more difficult for the Royals.

Brad Hodge and James Faulkner made their presence felt with the bat in hand but by then the target was so stiff that it was almost impossible for the Royals to get anywhere close to the target. Punjab at the end won the match by 16 runs which keeps them at the top of the table.
