Punjab won the toss and elected to field first in a match which was a formality more than anything else. The Delhi openers for once in this tournament were looking for a good start but it was not to be the case which has been the story for Delhi all throughout the season. Mayank Agarwal once again got out cheaply which brought Dinesh Karthik to the crease. Karthik and Kevin Pietersen were trying to rebuild the innings but lost Karthik midway for 13.
Delhi were soon reduced to 44 for 3 as Kedhar Jadhav got out without troubling the scorers and Delhi found themselves in a spot od bother. But Pietersen on the other end was looking good which was Delhi’s only chance ofd posting a formidable total. Manoj Tiwari’s poor run with the bat continued as he found himself in the middle of a terrible mix-up with the skipper which resulted in a run-out.
Duminy could not do much with the bat in hand as he mistimes a drive of the leg-spinner Karanveer Singh and was caught in the covers. Pietersen soon followed Duminy to the dressing room after a well made half-century but it was never going to be enough for the Daredevils to challenge the table toppers.
The innings came to an abrupt end after the dismissal of their captain as they failed to play out their full quota of 20 overs and were all out for 115 in 18.1 overs.
The score was good enough to challenge Kinsg XI Punjab and although they lost Virender Sehwag and Glenn Maxwell in quick succession, David Miller and Manan Vohra made sure that there were no more hiccups in the innings as they went about their run-chase with utmost ease. Punjab lost Manan Vohra just before rain interrupted play with four runs needed to win the match. Miller finished it off once play resumed after rain and Punjab won the match by seven wickets in 13.5 overs.
