Mumbai Indians won the toss and decided to field first in a must win match for them as Rajasthan Royals looked like a more likely team to seal their spot in the playoffs. Royals did not quite get off to the start they would have liked losing their captain Shane Watson early on in the innings but Sanju Samson and Karun Nair decided to take matter in their hands and clobbered the bowling to all parts of the ground.
The first wicket partnership added exactly 100 runs in quick time which gave the innings the required momentum and it also laid the platform for the big hitters to come to the party. Brad Hodge and James Faulkner did not disappoint as they took the Royals to a very good score of 189 at the end of 20 overs.
Sanju Samson’s 74 off 47 balls was the top score of the innings with good support coming from Karun Nair who scored a brilliant half-century.
Mumbai Indians had to get the target in 14.3 overs which will ensure a playoff berth and knock Royals out of the tournament. Mumbai Indians went after the target right from the outset and in the process lost wickets at regular intervals. Simmons, Hussey, Sharma all got off starts but failed to carry on and it was left to Corey Anderson to take them home which looked very bleak at that moment.
Anderson kept finding the fence which just about kept Mumbai in the hunt and then came the big over of Watson where Anderson and Rayadu took him to the cleaners. Rayadu played a brilliant cameo of 30 runs and Tare came in for just one ball where he had to hit a six to take Mumbai to the playoffs and he did not disappoint. Anderson remained unbeaten on 95 as the Royals were shell-shocked at the outcome of the proceedings.
