New Delhi: Shillong outfit Royal Wahingdoh opened their campaign in the Second Division League 2013/14 with some style. The Club registered a 9 – 2 victory over Delhi outfit Garhwal FC at the Railway Stadium in Dhanbad on Friday, Feb 7, 2014.
Wahingdoh forward Jackichand Singh scored a hat-trick for his side in the 26th, 47th, and the 79th minute. His second goal of the game – a 40-yard long ranger – was the talking point of the game.
Although Garhwal pulled one back through Monu Choudhary in the 75th minute, it was all a herculean task for the Delhi outfit to try and record even a draw at that moment, as the score read 6 – 1 in favour of Wahingdoh.
The win made them go atop the Group A with three points – two points clear of Eagles FC and Aizawl FC, who recorded a 1 – 1 draw in their game in the morning.
In Group A, Kolkata outfit Bhowanipore FC recorded a 4 – 0 victory over Kenkre Sports FC at the Paljor Stadium in Gangtok, and in the process, also topped the table.
The other match of the group saw Aizawl FC engage in a 1 – 1 draw with Kerala outfit Eagles FC in the same venue.
Group A leaders Royal Wahingdoh next take on Green Valley on Feb 10, 2014, while Group B leaders Bhowanipore FC take on Eagles FC on Feb 9, 2014.
