Salgaocar Get Their One Pt Back

New Delhi: The All India Football Federation Appeals Committee meeting was successfully held at the AIFF Headquarters, Football House, New Delhi, on Thursday, April 24.

The meeting was chaired by B. Diengdoh, Chairman. Vijay Panjwani, Vice Chairman, and Niharendu Mazumdar, Advocate and Member, were also present for the occasion.

The main agenda of the meeting was to ascertain whether the one point in question for Salgaocar FC would be awarded, and the result has been positive for the Goan Club.

Indian Defender Fulganco Cardozo and Australian defender Matthew Foschini were fielded by Salgaocar in their successive matches against Bengaluru FC – Champions of the Airtel I-League, and Pune FC, on the 22nd and 26th November, 2013, respectively.

It had been claimed that the players did not go through the necessary formalities of registration before being fielded, and thus were ineligible to play.

However, the Appeals Committee have come to the conclusion that those two players were indeed eligible to play, and the one point deducted from the Club to be given back.

Bengaluru FC and Pune FC were awarded 3-0 victories and three points each for the games. Although BFC recorded a win against the Goan outfit on that day, PFC picked up two extra points following their draw against Salgaocar.

The Club, however, have been levied a fine of Rs. 50,000 for an administrative lapse.

Salgaocar, currently in the third position in the Airtel I-League points table, thus move to 39 points – just one short of Kingfisher East Bengal, occupying the second spot.

Pune FC have also been deducted of the two points they were awarded in the process.
