New Delhi: The Indian Boxing Federation on Wednesday retained Gurbaksh Singh Sandhu as the Chief National Coach of the Indian Boxing Team till the 2016 Rio Olympics. This decision was taken in consultation with the Sports authority of India at New Delhi recently.

Sandhu, who was first appointed as the Chief National Coach in 1993, has ably served the sport for close to two decades, during which time the India boxers have made ground breaking progress in the international arena, including the first Olympic medal, the first World Championship medal and many other firsts to his name. He retired from his services as the National Coach with the Sports Authority of India earlier this year.
A Committee was constituted under the Chairmanship of the President, Indian Boxing Federation Abhishek Matoria for the selection of the Chief National Coach. The committee, which also included the undersigned, ID Nanavati (Vice President, IABF) and Naraottam Singh Rawat (Chairman, ROC) unanimously agreed, that Sandhu was the right man to handle the reigns of the Indian Boxing Team (Senior Men) as the Chief National Coach. The candidature of. Sandhu was therefore agreed and approved by the committee & Sports Authority of India.

The Indian Boxing Federation along with the entire boxing fraternity congratulatesd Sandhu and hopes that he will guide and propel Indian boxers to new heights in the future.
