Ritu Rani to lead Indian senior women hockey team

New Delhi: Ritu Rani will lead Indian women hockey team in the FIH Women’s Hockey World League Round 3 (Semi-Finals) to be played at Rotterdam, The Netherlands from June 13-23. Midfielder Chanchan Devi will be the vice-captain of the team.


Hockey India selectors Col. Balbir Singh, B P Govinda, Director High Performance Roelant Oltmans and Chief Coach Neil Hawgood alongwith Government Observer Harbinder Singh selected the list of 18 players during the meeting held on May 17.
 

The senior women team camp is currently underway and commenced at NIS, Patiala on May 12 as final preparations for this tournament. The team will depart for Rotterdam on 5 June 2013, with their opening match against New Zealand on 13 June 2013.


The Indian team has qualified for the FIH Women World League Round 3 (Semi-Finals) in February this year by winning the World League Round 2 tournament in Delhi. The FIH World League is a qualification tournament for the FIH Women’s World Cup 2014 to be played in The Hague, The Netherland from 31 May-14 June 2014.


India is placed in Pool B with New Zealand, Germany and Belgium while hosts The Netherlands, Korea, Japan and Chile are placed in Pool A.
