Unmukt Chand played a captain’s knock to guide India to their third Under-19 World Cup title. Chand led from the front to help India to register a six wickets win over Australia.
The match was evenly poised throughout and India chasing 226 did with but not without early jitters. India lost early wickets and looked like anybody’s game till the 40th over, but then some great batting helped India win the match.
Here are some of the hits and flops of the match:
India
Unmukt Chand: Chand who had an average outing so far in tournament but then today he rose to the occasion and led his side from the front with a 111 runs innings. The best thing about his batting today is that he hung on to his wicket when wickets were falling in flurry. He kept his cool under pressure and brought India home. His innings was laced with seven fours and six sixes.
Smit Patel: He came into bat after four Indian wickets were down and India were really reeling at that time. But then he showed real class and temperament and did not allow any further casualty.
He contributed 62 runs in the 130 runs partnership with Chand.
Sandeep Sharma: Sandeep was the wrecker-in-chief for India and accounted for four Australian wickets. He dismissed both the Australian openers in his first spell and then came back later to stop the opponent during the death overs. He finished with figures of 54-4.
Flops:
Prasant Chopra: With an average score to score to chase 226, a good show was expected up front, but then Chopra was out for a duck giving India early jitters.
Vijay Zol: Lot was expected from Zol but then he could not deliver on expected lines and he lost his wicket making sending India into pool of troubles.
Australia
William Bosisto: The skipper was on the money again. He has played well throughout the series and even today recovered Australia from dire straits after they lost four wickets. He played a very good innings and stayed unbeaten on 87 including six fours.
Ashton Turner: The all rounder has impressed throughout the tournament and rose to the occasion today also. He formed a good partnership with his skipper to help Australia post a competitive target. He scored 43 of 50 deliveries including three fours and a six.
Flops:
Cameron Bancroft: He was the their highest run scorer in the tournament before this match but then today, he was out in the first over starting an early collapse in the match.
