It has been more than two decades and it is still counting for Sachin Tendulkar as a player. Sachin as a player has exceeded par excellence and there is hardly any milestone left for him to achieve. His unparalleled contribution to Indian cricket made him a role model in the country and that it something which has inspired the Indian Government to nominate him as a member of the Parliament.
Well, on Monday he took an oath and finally has made his debut at the Rajya Sabha. Now that is a good move by the government and Sachin can indeed use this platform to promote sports not only cricket but others as well.
.
But then the question arises is Sachin really made for politics? Sachin does possess qualities that is required to inspire a country but than his past records as a captain on the field does reveal that he is not someone who can actually live up to it when it comes down to leading.
He is an integral part of the team, and he does give valuable inputs for the team’s cause, but then when it comes down to lead from the front he has not been that successful as he should have been.
There might be lot of reasons for that but then he did fail as a captain. He still kept performing as a player but he lacked the ability to lead the team. Sachin as a captain played 25 Tests and won only four, lost nine and drew 12 and in ODI’s he led the team to 23 wins while losing 43 with one tie and six with no results.
Well this does prove that one of the greatest athletes of the World could not excel when it comes down to leadership. But then it is not his fault and a not everyone can take the burden of leadership.
So someone like Sachin who could not lead a team of 11 players to success that often as it was expected can he handle the burden of this whole sports fraternity who is expecting Sachin to try and instill sporting culture in the country.
Well even Sachin was never a leader but he still had the capacity to give in input and be useful with his tips. So there is no way that he cannot be useful even if he does not possess the required skills of a leader.
He can in many ways help the MP be a role model like him and also his give ideas about how to bring in radical change to the field of sports. And this is where the real question arises?
Sachin in his capacity as a magnanimous soul can do lot of good to his fellow housemates, but will they actually want to take cues from him. It is not a hidden fact that the majority of the people sitting there have been into this political line for more than 15-20 years. So can Sachin, who has been so down to earth, honest and success-oriented, survive amidst all these political minds.
Sachin has never been amongst any controversies and people like him because of the examples he has set for over the years. And when it comes down to politics, general public do not have much high regards for it. It would be hard for the Master Blaster to handle the intricacies of the Parliament and expectations of so many people. Even Sachin made it clear that he would not compromise with the game for Parliament. So how does this justify his nomination the Upper House of the Parliament as of now?
It is not a hidden fact that cricket is not devoid of any politics. Every institute does have politics and Sachin who could not handle the pressure of handling the pressure of leding a pack of 11, will he succeed in the more murkier world of Indian politics?
