PSB see off the formidable BP

New Delhi: Punjab and Sind Bank (PSB) defeated the formidable Bharat Petroleum (BP) 2-1 in the 48th Nehru Senior Hockey Tournament played here at Major Dhyanchand Stadium on Friday. Both the teams looked lethal from the initial moments of the match and were right on the offence from the word go.

They got a chance to score in the fifth minute when they awarded a penalty corner, but they wasted it. The next minutes of the match saw both the teams creating goal scoring but ended up blowing them. BP had more chances to score as they forced three penalty corners but wasted them all. Just as the half time whistle was about to go, PSB drew the first blood through Jasjeet Singh off a penalty corner.

A goal just before the half time saw PSB dominate more in the second half and went to dominate the half. They could have got many more goals in the second half but lack of good finishing did them in. They could get the second goal in the 49th minute a superb drag by the full back Vikramjeet Singh off a penalty corner found the nets. BP on the other hand, looked desperate to score and put up a late fight back in the 50th minute, when Gagandeep Singh scored off a penalty corner to reduce the gap. But that was not enough as they could not trouble the scorers again, for the match eventually to be won by the PSB.
