Jalandhar: Indian Oil, Mumbai and Bharat Petroleum booked their berths in the semi-finals of the 28th Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament here on Wednesday. Indian Oil reached the last four stage beating Punjab Police by 4-1 , while Bharat Petroleum reserve their breath in the semis after getting past Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala by 3-1.
In Pool A match, Indian Oil, Mumbai combined well from the start of the game, while Punjab Police, who were without the services of Olympian Gaganajit Singh failed to impress. Indian Oil opened their account through Dharmvir Singh in the 8th minute of play and nine minutes later increased the margin to 2-0 when Gagandeep Singh sounded the board after receiving the pass from Deepak Thakur from left Flank (2-0). At half time Indian Oil was leading by 2-0.
In the 59th minute, Sarbjeet Singh scored the field goal to make it 3-0 for Indian Oil. Punjab Police narrowed the margin of defeat in the 63rd minute when Jagmit singh scored the field goal to reduce the margin (1-3). However, in the 66th minute, Dharmvir Singh scored his second goal to make it (4-1) for Indian Oil.
The Pool C match between Bharat Petroleum and Rail Caoch Factory Kapurthala was played on a very fast note. Bharat Petroleum earned first penalty corner in the 20th minute of the play but Gurpreet Singh’s shot was unlucky to find the plank as it went out touching the goal post. In the 26th minute, RCF’s boys got first penalty corner and Balwinder Singh netted the ball (1-0 and at half time RCF was leading by 1-0.
After the break Bharat Petroleum’s Amar Ayamma scored the equalizer (1-1) in the 38th minute. Bharat Petroleum got another penalty corner in the 50th minute and this time Gurpreet Singh made no mistake to convert the short corner. In the 58th minute of the play, Jarnail Singh consolidated the lead to (3-1).
