New Delhi: ONGC XI defeated Indian Navy 3-0 in the final match to win the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Hockey Tournament played at Shivaji Stadium in New Delhi, on Friday.
ONGC took the early lead through Jagwant Singh in the 10th minute by a speedy grounded shot for which the Navy had no reply. Throughout the match ONGC dominated the match by keeping the maximum ball possession and played an attacking game.
Although ONGC were weak at passing the ball to its fellow players, Navy could not capitalise the situation. ONGC scored the second goal in 18th minute through Pramod Kumar who hit a quick ground shot to hit the goal post plank. ONGC were leading by 2-0 till the breather.
The second half started with some failed attempts by the Navymen to get a breakthrough. ONGC started playing in a defensive mode and the frustration of Navy men kept on increasing as they failed to score. ONGC struck a final blow to the Navy team in the 69th minute of the match as Arun Rawat scored a goal to make it 3-0.
Finally ONGC XI defeated Indian Navy by 3-0 to win the 10th Maharaja Ranjit Singh Hockey tournament.
The winning team was awarded the trophy and Rs 1.5 lakh while the runner-up was given Rs 1 lakh cheque.
