New Delhi: On the Day 2 of 4th Hockey India Sub- Junior Men’s National Championship 2014 (Division A) played at Ranchi, Jharkhand, in their first match of the championship, Punjab registered a huge 7-1 victory over Manipur, Hockey Maharashtra overcame Uttar Pradesh by 5-3, Haryana defeated Madhya Pradesh hockey Academy with a clean 3-0 and Chandigarh Olympic Association Vs. Mizoram saw a draw at 5-5.
In a Pool C match, Punjab recorded an easy win over Manipur. In the first half of the match, it was as late as in the 16th minute that Manipur sliced in the first goal of the match through Ibung Singh and maintained the lead by 1-0 till the 32nd minute, when Punjab’s Captain Kawaljit Singh leveled the scores at 1-1 by the end of the first half of the match.
Unlike Manipur’s first goal dominance in the first half, the second half saw Punjab going all out from the 45th minute of the game and pierced in a total of six goals till the 67th minute and restricted Manipur from attacking or doing any damage. Captain Kawaljit singh of Punjab managed to strike another goal in the 65th minute and contributed with a total of two goals, whereas teammate Harmeet Singh helped the team by contributing a total of five goals in the 45th, 47th, 58th, 60th and 67th minute and registered an astonishing 7-1 win.
In another Pool C match of the day, Hockey Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh played an exciting match, as the former went on to register a well earned 5-3 win over Uttar Pradesh. The first half of the match saw a tough clash till the 20th minute of the game when hockey Maharashtra’s Captain Rahul Sander successfully converted a penalty corner and opened the account for the team, followed by another successful penalty corner by teammate Ganesh Patil in the 22nd minute taking the score up by 2-0. It was through Uttar Pradesh’s Abhilash Gupta in the 25th minute by converting a penalty corner and opening the account for his team, reducing the margin to 2-1. By the end of the first half, the score board read 3-1, with the help of hockey Maharashtra’s Jaisingh Dulla in the 30th minute as a field goal.
Continuing its rebellious spree, it was Uttar Pradesh who shot up the score to 3-2 with the help of Rivins Jaiswal in the 41st minute. But the celebrations were short lived as hockey Maharashtra’s Jaisingh Dulla increased the margin for the team in the 44th and 61st minute of the game taking the score to 5-2. The last goal of the match came from Uttar Pradesh’s Mukesh Ram in the 66th minute, which only helped in reducing the margin to 5-3.
In a Pool D match played today, between Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy and Haryana, where the former lost the entire match to Haryana due to their own mistakes and giving away too many penalty corners. It was Haryana’s Mandeep Mor who successfully converted all three penalty corners in the 13th, 18th and 44th minute of the game. Except for giving away too many penalty corners, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy gave a good fight as they restricted Haryana from scoring any field goals but ultimately lost the match by 3-0 on board.
In another Pool D match, an exciting clash was witnessed between Chandigarh Olympic Association and Mizoram, as both the teams refrained from backing down and played a good fight as they drew the match at 5-5. The first goal of the match came as early as in the 1st minute from Chandigarh Olympic Association’s Gurjeet Singh, whereas the reply from Mizoram came as late as in the 25th minute through Hmangaihzuala leveling the scores at 1-1 by the end of the first half.
In the second half of the match, Mizoram took the lead by 2-1 in the 39th minute through Lalremsanga which was leveled by Chandigarh Olympic Association’s Pushpinder Singh in the 48th minute and Captain Maninderjeet Singh helped in snatching away the lead by 3-2 in the 49th minute. Mizoram’s Lalrinfela alone leveled the scores and helped the team in taking the lead by 4-3 over Chandigarh Olympic Association in the 54th and 56th minute. The game continued in the same manner and saw a 5-5 draw where Mizoram’s Lalrinfela stroked in the last goal to mark leveling goal of the match.
