women hockey teamKuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 14th June, 2014: In the fourth match of the Malaysian Tour 2014, played at Kuala Lumpur today, the Indian Women Hockey team continued their winning spree over the home team beating them 3-0 yet again today and comfortably taking their 4th win of the tour. This tour is a six match test series in build up to the Commonwealth Games 2014.

Already under the pressure of the loss of the first three matches, the Malaysian team started the match on a defensive mode and did not allow the Indian team to convert a single goal during the entire first half. While the Indian team kept the pressure in the entire session they were unable to get through the defence of the opponents.

It was in the second half finally that India struck its first goal in the 38th minute when Anupa Barla scored a brilliant field goal giving her team the much required breakthrough. This was like a message to the entire team that now is the time to take the attack completely on the opponents and thereon the match changed gears. In the 45th minute India took the lead further and this time it was the stick of Ritusha Arya which did the trick for her team and left the home team stunned by her field goal. With a 2-0 lead India was already comfortably placed in the match and all set to take their 4th win. But Namita Toppo had different ideas and in the final minutes of the game she went through the defence of the opponents and scored a field goal in the 65th minute. This helped India get 3-0 on the scorecard and the win.

An excited Ritu Rani said "The morale of entire team is high and from here the target is to take a clean sweep. While the Malaysians are playing good hockey, our team has managed to outclass them in every sphere of the game.”
