The whole nation is praying for the quick recovery of Yuvraj Singh. The maverick all-rounder, who was India’s World Cup hero and man of the tournament, has been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy in the United States, revealed Yuvi's physiotherapist Jatin Chaudhary and was corroborated by sources in the family and in the Indian cricket board.
According to The Times Of India, Yuvraj had earlier been detected with a tumour between his left lung and heart, which has since been termed malignant. “He is suffering from cancer and this is the first stage. It’s curable and he will be fit to play in May. He will be back on the field very soon,” his physiotherapist Jatin Chaudhary told TOI. BCCI officials, however, said the lay-off could be longer and that chemotherapy was scheduled to continue for nine weeks.
Sources said BCCI would bear the expenses for Yuvraj's treatment in the US and his IPL franchisee, Sahara India, would release $1.8 million that the player would have received had played in the IPL this year.
According to Yuvi’s his former Punjab teammate Ravneet Ricky Yuvraj is not afraid and is feeling very positive. “I am chatting with Yuvi almost everyday. From his messages I can make out that he is not afraid and is feeling very positive,” he said to Hindustan Times. “He should be back on the field in three to four months.”
Meanwhile, Yograj Singh, Yuvi’s father, calls his ailing son a ‘sher’. “Yuvi is a ‘sher’ and all I can say is that he will make a comeback,” said Yograj Singh, father of Yuvraj Singh. “I do not want to say anything about this topic,” said Yograj to TOI.
But Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni seemds to be unaware of Yuvi’s illness. “I don't know about his illness because I haven't been in touch. He is a pleasure to have in the side. He is one among a few players who has been good at No 6 and then climbed to do well at No 4. He is someone who could change the momentum of the game. He could block and also take aggressive option. Then not to forget his bowling. People call him pie-chucker but he is very effective,” Dhoni said of Yuvraj during a prees conference.
Meanwhile, there has been immense for the start cricketer even in the social media. S Sreesanth twits that it's sad to hear Yuvraj's ailment. “Health is very important and I wish him a very speedy recovery.” Similarly Omar Abdullah wishes Yuvraj Singh a speedy and complete recovery. “On a good day there are few cricketers more exciting than him,” writes the J&K CM. Gujarat’s CM too is sad to hear about ill-health of Yuvraj Singh. “He is a fighter and I am sure he'll come out of it very soon and play again for India,” twits Narendra Modi.
