I can understand Sachin's feelings, says Anand

Chennai: Sometimes when you have a goal in front of you it is easy to focus. Sometimes when you have a big milestone in front you and the whole world waits for it, it could bring in pressure to the extent that you lose your way.

 

World chess champion Viswanathan Anand has had at least three milestones that kept him waiting for eternity but interestingly all three happened when he least expected each of them.

 

For Anand when the goals of his career were not just about numbers, everything fell into place. The first one was when he became a Grandmaster, India's first, after going for it with single-minded determination for about a year, the second, his world No. 1 status which eluded him even after his nemesis Gary Kasparov left the scene and the third, his world title in 2007, which came after a big gap of seven years.
