India Open Grand Prix: Saurabh Verma a step away from glory

Lucknow: Unseeded Saurabh Verma maintained his giant-killing spree after he knocked out 16th seed Suppanyu Avihingsanon of Thailand 26-24, 21-13 to set up a clash with Indonesian Taufik Hidayat in the final of Syed Modi India Open Grand Prix badminton championship on Sunday.

 

Verma, who is ranked 239 in the world and hails from Dhar in Madhya Pradesh, fought tooth and nail to win the opening game after trailing 14-17. In the second game, Verma was confidence personified and made his Thai opponent struggle for every point.
