SAI seeks private sector's help for developing infrastructure

New Delhi: The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has come up with an ambitious plan to develop its existing infrastructure. It's now planning to put in place a reworked Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to build on the existing facilities at the 90 SAI centres - which includes sub-centres, training centres and Centres of Excellence.

SAI has access to a lot of land all across India - some of it owned and others acquired on lease from the respective state governments. "We have at least 35 to 100 acres in most of the SAI centres. It's a pity that only 40 to 60% of it is being utilized currently. We propose to bring in private investors as well as Public Sector Undertakings to develop this vacant area by building infrastructure," SAI director general Desh Deepak Varma told TOI on Wednesday.
