Mumbai: Maharashtra's Subhankar Dey and Air India's Tanvi Lad coveted the boys and girls' under-19 titles, respectively, in the inaugural edition of the Gautam Thakkar Memorial All India Junior Masters Badminton on Tuesday.
While, Dey thumped Karnataka's Abhishek Yelugar in straight sets in a keenly contested match, Tanvi rallied from a 0-1 deficit to outsmart West Bengal's Rituparna Das. All was, however, not lost for Rituparna, who clinched the U-17 title against Andhra Pradesh's Ruthvika Shivani. The boys u-17 title went to Chattishgarh's Shreyansh Jaiswal.
For the under-19, India No. 4, Subhankar Dey, Tuesday's win holds special significance. Not only is it his first ever All India title, but also his first championship win in over two years.
