Anand settles for seventh draw in Tal Memorial chess tournament

Chennai: Vassily Ivanchuk of Ukraine broke the montony of draws in the Tal Memorial chess tournament in Moscow on Wednesday and joined the leaders with a creditable 38-move win over Hikaru Nakamura of US in the seventh round.

World champion Viswanathan Anand settled for his seventh draw in the tournament when he split the point with World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen of Norway while joint leaders Sergey Karjakin of Russia and Levon Aronian of Armenia drew their seventh-round game to keep their position.

Anand's draw was not a surprise considering that he had already got into a safety mode right from the start of the event and also because his opponent was Carlsen.
