Aaron makes London mark but fails to qualify

New Delhi: For Karnataka's Aaron D'Souza, the second day at the 65th Senior National Aquatics Championships in Ranchi was like ace-shooter Abhinav Bindra shooting a perfect 600 in a domestic meet and still not getting the world record.

D'Souza swam well under the FINA invitational qualifying time of 1:51.59 sec in 200m freestyle but did not qualify for London Olympics as the Nationals are not a qualifying tournament.

He clocked 1.51:38s bettering his two-year-old record of 1:53.36 sec. "I am happy I could get past the qualifying time. I'm a little upset over Nationals not being one of the qualifying tournaments but it certainly boosts my confidence that I could push to the limit," D'Souza told TOI from Ranchi. Sandeep Sejwal and Virdhawal Khade are the lone Indian swimmers to have qualified for London so far.
