Joydeep the winner at Youth Chess tourney

Kolkata: Joydeep Dutta defeated a promising Sreyan Bhowmick in the summit clash to win the Chess For Youth Championship on Monday.

With four players locked at the top after the penultimate round, Joydeep held his nerve outwitting Sreyan to win the INR 20,000 prize money with six points at Town Hall.

Former Asian U-12 boys champion Diptayan Ghosh and Swayams Mishra fought a fierce battle on the top board but had to be content with the joint second spot with 5.5 points each after playing out a draw.

Defending champion Bitan Banerjee made short work of second seed Anwesh Upadhyay but had to be settled for the fourth spot.

Top seed and Asian Junior champion, IM M Shyam Sundar of Tamil Nadu after his unexpected reversal on Sunday, was relegated to the 8th position.
