Nagpur: The giant-killing run of PV Sindhu ended by second seed Jie Yao in the final of the Dutch Open Grand Prix at Almere, Netherlands, on Sunday.
The unseeded Indian, who knocked out several higher-ranked opponents including the top seed Porntip Buranaprasertsuk on way to reaching the final, tried hard but her best was not enough against Yao as the local girl went on to win the women's singles final 21-16, 21-17 in 47 minutes.
Egged on by the vociferous home crowd, Yao raced to a handy five-point lead in the first game and maintained it till the end to pocket the first game.
Trailing by a game, sixteen-year-old Sindhu, ranked 76 in the world, started the second game on a positive note. The tall and lanky shuttler was leading by three points in the initial stages, raising the hopes of another fightback. However, Yao caught Sindhu midway through the second game and closed the match with some solid all-round display.
