India-A team participating in the ongoing tri-series in South Africa seems to be a great news for the newly elected chief executive officer of Cricket South Africa, Haroon Lorgat. This remark came when India’s tour to South Africa was under some kind of threat after the BCCI’s working meeting that was conducted just couple of weeks back. BCCI was not happy with the presence of Lorgat and it was expected that BCCI might cancel the tour.
But by sending India A for a tri-series, which has Australia as a third team, and for couple of test matches in South Africa , it seems that things are back on track. Lorgat is happy with the way things are going on and was quoted by Hindustan Times saying, "The A team just came in (on Monday) and I welcomed them at the High Performance Centre (in Pretoria). If you look at that A team, there are a number of players in that line-up that will be here at the end of the year.”
"So it may be an opportunity for them to get used to the conditions. I think they were smart to get those guys (Cheteshwar Pujara, Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma) into the A team with a view to getting them familiar with the pitches," Lorgat added.
Since the meeting of BCCI’s working committee it is expected that the schedule of three Tests, seven ODI's and two T20 Internationals might not get a nod and it would be shortened. But Lorgat is still hopeful that the schedule remains more or less the same.
He was quoted by DNA saying, "From my understanding (the schedule) was confirmed, but there is obviously a bit of doubt in that now. I don't know what the specific issues are and I wonder if I've not gotten trapped into a kind of media amplification of what may not be there."
