“Rohit Sharma has a tremendous cricketing brain,” says the vice-captain of Indian team, Virat Kohli. Rohit has been quite consistent in the last couple of months and apart from that he carries some great leadership skills which got Mumbai Indians to their maiden IPL title earlier this year. Virat is quite impressed with the way Rohit has been doing and would like to see him leading the Indian team in future.
Kohli was quoted by Hindustan Times saying, "He (Rohit) has tremendous cricketing brain. I often take his advice during matches.”
Apart from that, Kohli also enjoyed his recent stint in Zimbabwe where he won the series 5-0. He said, "I got a chance of being a captain in recently concluded Zimbabwe series. I like to be a captain and take responsibility. As a batsman, we focus on ourselves, but as a captain we have to look into every aspect. The responsibility increases manifold as the captain," he added.
Kohli is focusing on what he has right now, rather than seeing what is being held in his future and would love to keep himself ready for a big series against South Africa and Australia. He was quoted by The Times of India saying, "I never plan anything and believe in consistency. I can't tell what will happen in future. I just hope our team will come out with flying colours.”
Though he is trying to curb away his aggression and would be looking to have a steady approach as a captain. On the recent comparisons drawn between him and Ricky Ponting, he said, “Many people have said that my captaincy has the flair like Ricky Ponting and I feel good to being compared with a legend.”
