“Kohli is much more expressive than me on the field,” says Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Dhoni also didn’t give much air to the idea of having any kind of dream team and said that personally, he won't select his best team ever because he felt people should respect everyone who has played for India. Apart from that, he believes that likes of Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag can still make a comeback because form has always been the criteria to make it to the Indian team and not the age.
Recently former Indian skippers Kapil Dev and Sourav Ganguly listed out the their dream teams which were limelight as in Kapil’s eleven none of his 1983 World Cup winning squad members made it to to the team whereas Ganguly selected the team which was more on the lines of the post-eighty period.
The reports in The Times of India quoted Dhoni saying, "It's very difficult to compare and compile all the players and teams of all era. Personally, I won't select my best team ever because I feel we should respect everyone who has played for India.”
Apart from that he also threw the light on how form is the parameter of selecting a player and that’s why the likes of Gautam, Yuvraj and Sehwag, who are waiting for their chances to make a comeback, are finding it hard to make it to that jam-packed batting line-up.
"I don't think age is a factor. What matters is form and fitness and not age," he said.
Indian skipper also believes that every format has its own essence and if one does well in even one format then the confidence can always be carried forward from there.
“They are all inter-related. Performance in one will have an impact on the other form," Dhoni said.
Dhoni also appreciated the recent success of Virat Kohli who led the team to 5-0 win in Zimbabwe. He rated him as a brilliant cricketer who has all the skills to be at the top of the game for a very long time.
He was quoted by Deccan Herald saying, "Kohli is a fantastic cricketer. He has great knowledge about the game and has done well as a captain. He has all the right recipes. He is very expressive on the field," said the wicket-keeper batsman under whose leadership India had won both the ICC Twenty20 World Cup and the ICC 50-over World Cup apart from this year's Champions Trophy.
