“Zaheer Khan and Yuvraj Singh are both very funny and we laughed a lot even when training hard. At the end of the day, most top sportspersons are the same, highly focused. Basically, they are grown up kids!,” says the trainer Tim Exter. Zaheer and Yuvraj have been kept out of the Indian team from quite a sometime and their willingness to get back into the squad took them to the Brive La Gaillarde, a small town in France where they trained under the guidance of Exter.
Exter, who had altogether a different challenge in hand to get this dynamic duo in shape, was quoted by DNA saying, “It was great. It was extremely gratifying to see how they applied themselves and the improvements they made.”
Exter was quite steady in his approach which allowed Yuvi and Zak to recover well and once they were fit, he pushed them hard to get back their 100 per cent fitness and both the cricketers responded well to their trainer’s advice and are now feeling much fresh and relieved.
“Every athlete is different. They have different requirements, injury history, etc. This is part of the initial process I carry out before deciding on a course of action. There was a lot of work they carried out together but within that there was certain individualisation, to ensure that we hit the right spots,” Exter said.
He was quoted by Daily News saying, “They were the ones who decided to come. I have said for years that talent alone is not enough in any sport. You have to work at the physical side to help on field and tarin to reduce the injury risk.”
He promised that if everything remains normal then these two dynamic cricketers will be looking much better than ever. He is not a cricket-specialist but he believes that the cool exercises will help them in long-run and sharing his more thoughts on their fitness levels
Exter was quoted by Times of India saying, “They still retain all the skill and talent they have always had. Hopefully, with their new found stability, strength, power and speed, we will all enjoy watching them at their very best again.”
“We worked together and came up with some cool cricket-specific exercises. My skills are transferable to most sports. Hopefully, you will see them both doing what they are good at, more consistently, for longer and without getting injured,” he said.
