Shikhar's talent is unquestionable and now he has learnt to respect his wicket: VVS Laxman

“Shikhar Dhawan's  talent is unquestionable,” says the batting legend VVS Laxman. The wristy Hyderabadi batsman was showering praises on Shikhar Dhawan’s brilliant comeback in International circuit and also on Mahendra Singh Dhoni for leading the side in an impressive manner despite the controversies that were developing in India.

He was quoted by Indian Express saying, "I have known him for many years. He is a talented and skilled player. He has done really well for Delhi, North zone and now Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL. He made an impressive debut against Australia. The only change that I see in him is that he values his wicket even more."

"He is not giving away his wicket easily which has helped him to convert good starts into big knocks. He has learnt to respect his wicket. Apart from that, the kind of commitment and positivity that Indian team showed in the warm-up games was something very eye-pleasing," the Hyderabadi added.

Laxman gave credit to MS Dhoni for this emphatic win. Dhoni kept the team united despite amid controversies that had engulfed Indian cricket back home. He was quoted by Deccan Chronicle saying,” Credit goes to Dhoni and his team. The manner in which they focussed on the game despite the controversies that were developing back home is really commendable. He made some good tactical moves throughout the tournament including in final.”

“The confidence that Dhoni had showed in players like Shikhar Dhawan and Ravindra Jadeja is great to see. They two were the chief architects for this comprehensive win and credit to identify these talents surely goes to him," he said.

Laxman however didn't comment on being aksed if Shikhar-Shamrma were an ideal replacement Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir at the top. He was quoted by Deccan Herald saying, "It will be too early to pass a judgement like this. I am pleased with the way Rohit and Shikhar have played in the English conditions. It is really tough playing in England with two new balls and they did an appreciable job."

He added, “Warm-up games were the trailers for what Indian team can do in this ICC Champions Trophy.”
