Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni said he was lucky to have players at his disposal who are not afraid of pressure. According to a report in Indian express, he said "I'm fortunate to have the players in the side to really soak up the pressure."
"What we have done really well is we have enjoyed each others' success and that has really contributed to the side winning most of the games," the wicket-keeper batsman said.
"If I'm happier than the person who has actually scored a century or a fifty, you understand that's the kind of atmosphere that you want, because at the end of the day, what we play is a team sport," he added.
Meanwhile, according to a report in Deccan Chronicle, Dhoni said there is fierce competition for places in the Indian team but it has never spilled over into personal rivalries.
"It's important that the guys sitting out just to wait for their chance, not think that if this guy does badly I will get a chance. They can use that period to improve themselves and whenever the chance, whatever the reason may be, fitness or form, they try to earn that place in the side," he said.
A report in Hindustan Times says there is this tendency to associate the India's fortunes with a billion hopes. But the truth is that even a few hundred can make life difficult for MS Dhoni and his boys. This was evident when the team was invited to a party hosted by the Indian High Commission on Thursday.
“The occasion provided an opportunity to mingle with Dhoni & Co on a cool evening, and with generous helpings of tandoori chicken and liquor on offer, it was like hitting the jackpot. Dhoni, sporting a handlebar moustache, seemed to like his chicken. But he had to sneak to the back of the food pavilion to gulp down a drumstick after posing for pictures for almost 30 minutes. Once he agreed, there was no end to the requests. Even Bhuvneshwar Kumar wasn't spared. For the few seconds Shikhar Dhawan turned his back for a quick bite, a queue had formed behind him with similar requests,” says the report.
“Photographers had to adjust back and forth trying to capture the full frame of Ishant Sharma and his fans. Even though Virat Kohli was a pale shadow of the Gangnam dancer at Edgbaston last Sunday, he managed a smile every time a request came his way.”
According to a report in DNA, India’s performance at the recent ICC Champions Trophy gave Rahul Dravid a reason to be happy especially after the spot-fixing controversy that marred the IPL and affected his team Rajasthan Royals.
“I think we needed a good positive story. We needed a cheer in our cricket, happiness in our cricket. We had lot of positive stories to write about. For Indian cricket, it was heartening tour to watch,” he said at an event here on Thursday.
“I think its been a fantastic tournament for India. They have played exceptional cricket, they were by far the dominant team in the competition. Dhoni has done a great job with the team. In fact I thought all the youngsters really lived up to their potential. It is really exciting times for Indian cricket,” Dravid said .
