We play hard, we play fair, says Pietersen on Broad controversy

Stuart Broad has probably done the biggest mistake of his life by not taking a walk back to the dressing room when he edged the ball and was caught at slips by Michael Clarke. He wasn’t given out by umpire Aleem Dar and as a result he continued batting alongside Ian Bell. He went onto score 65 runs which can make a significant difference in the outcome of this match.

This surprising decision has brought not just him but also Aleem Dar in the line of fire and questions are being raised on his credibility.

The Times of India quoted England batsman Kevin Pietersen saying, "You've got to use it (the DRS) well. You only get two. Aleem Dar is a fantastic umpire and he's been rated one of the best umpires in world cricket over the last few years.”

He added, “We play hard, we play fair. Each individual player in the middle has the responsibility to wait for the umpire's decision.”

Petter Siddle was quoted by The Hindu saying, “It was "no big deal and there are many people who haven’t taken a walk back. It is the umpire's decision and you just take it and that's what we did. We just have to work harder.”

Former Australia spinner Shane Warne blasted Dar on Twitter, saying that "He's always had no idea. We all make mistakes and it's a very tough job being an umpire, but when Dar continually makes crucial mistakes why does he keep getting a gig?"

Though he didn’t slammed Broad for the incident and said, "You can't blame Broad for not walking. Hats off I say if you nick it to first slip stand your ground and get given not out!"

Another former Australian player, Rodney Hogg, also demanded that Dar should be taken off from the umpiring panel. "If you can't drive they take your licence off you," he tweeted. "But if you can't umpire you just keep doing Test matches."
