The recent addition to list of Dhoni admirers is none other than the Little Master Sunil Gavaskar, who has praised him for his innings of 52-ball and 45 runs against the Sri Lanka in the finals of the tri-nation series at Port of Spain. "Perhaps even his closest buddies don't know him as well as they think they do," said Gavaskar.
Gavaskar was quoted by Indian Express saying, “It is impossible to decipher the captain's real character and intentions.” Everybody was amazed in the manner he smacked those 16 runs off Sri Lanka pacer Shaminda Eranga off three deliveries as India won a nail-biter with two balls to spare. Dhoni was not looking fit enough to play the final but he did surprise everyone by making his way back to the squad.
The legendary batsman was quoted by The Hindu saying, “MS Dhoni was not even supposed to be fit for the final. There is no cricketer who has got India back from impossible situations so many times.” Gavaskar was simply smitten with the fact how 2011 World Cup winning captain keeps himself cool and calm irrespective of win or loss.
He said, “If tomorrow he has to say goodbye to all the trappings of fame, Dhoni will calmly get on his motorbike and go away. He is that rarity who treats both those impostors - wins and losses - in the same way. He simply plays the game.”
On Friday, Dilip Vengsakar paid rich tribute to Dhoni, saying his composure under pressure is simply unique.
Dhoni has been leading the “debate of the best finisher of the game” and with his yet another charismatic innings he has outclassed his nearest competitor, former Australian batting all-rounder Michael Bevan, with a far superior strike rate (89.63 to Bevan's 66.42) in successful chases in ODIs. It seems that Indian skipper is competing with himself rather than anybody else.
