Little Master Sunil Gavaskar has suggested that it would be better if the senior players of the squad mentor the youngsters and make sure that they stay away from all the matters of fixing. BCCI already has an anti-corruption unit which educate players about all the ill-wills of fixing or any such scandals.
Sunil Gavaskar was quoted by Indian Express saying, “BCCI should take the services of players like Anil Kumble, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and other disciplined cricketers who can spread this message of playing the game in right spirit. These are the men who spend a quality time with the other players and can surely assist them in refraining them from such useless things called as “fixing”.”
As per the recent reports of Hindustan Times, Little Master was quoted saying “It’s impossible to take away the match-fixing completely but a major chunk can be sorted out if proper measures are taken in this direction. Human beings will always be human beings and some of them would surely get tempted by some extra money that they might get from outside. But with proper counselling by the ones who have been playing this game can surely make a world of difference.”
Gavaskar made his point loud and clear when it came to whether Rajasthan Royals should be charged penalty for this case of spot-fixing or IPL committee should ban them. He was quoted by Deccan Herald saying, “Does the Parliament shut down if a party is caught for scandals? Is a political party banned because one of its members had been caught in a scandal? Then why should be the team suffering because of these three players who were arrested in case of spot-fixing. In my opinion they had not done anything wrong as a team and moreover in two of three matches where the alleged spot-fixing took place, Rajasthan won.”
