Limelight has now shifted from S Sreesanth to Ajit Chandila in the case of IPL spot-fixing as it has been claimed by the investigators that he was allegedly paid at least Rs 49 lakh. It was reported that he was given Rs 15 lakh for one over in a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 17th May but he was arrested before that Match.
As per the recent reports of Times of India, investigator was quoted saying, "Chandila agreed to do the spot-fixing but he couldn’t do in the first few matches but assured that he will do it very soon and finally he agreed to do it on May 17. He took the advance of Rs 15 lakh in April itself.”
According to the reports in Hindustan Times, officials was quoted saying, “Chandila came in contact with these bookies in the early April and agreed to fix the match that was scheduled to be played on May 17 against Sunrisers. But he was pinned down a day before he could have done that. All the three players who are arrested in the case of spot-fixing did have some conversations with some of the bookies.”
Meanwhile, according to the reports of Indian Express, investigator was quoted saying, “This was the fifth match that bookies were targeting to fix; earlier four were matches on May 5,9,12 and 15. Chandila received Rs 25 lakh for the May 5 match from a set of bookies and Rs 15 lakh for the May 17 match from another set. He was arrested before the match of May 17th so they failed to do the fixing and because of not getting a chance to play the match on May 12th they failed to fix that match too.”
He went onto say, “Chandila had contact with another bookie from who he received Rs 9 lakh. He forgot to do the signal because of which he had to return Rs 20 lakh out of the Rs 25 lakh which he received from bookies. He had received Rs 15 lakh from a Patiala-based property dealer Deepak Kumar on behalf of a bookie, who is absconding.”
