“It’s better if we allow the independent committee to investigate and be practical about what the truth is,” says Little Master, Sunil Gavaskar, who has full faith in the three-member committee that has been set-up to investigate the charges of alleged betting against 'CSK enthusiast' Gurunath Meiyappan.
He was quoted by Times of India saying, “Taking a leap to any conclusion so early is not a right thing to do. We have to be patient and let’s give some time to the independent committee. Rather than questioning on their credibility and integrity we should give them a breathing space and allow them to come with a solid proof if Gurunath is guilty.”
Meiyappan is being currently investigated by the Mumbai police for allegedly betting in CSK matches and is in custody till May 29th. According to the recent reports of DNA it came into notice that, former cricketer Ravi Shastri, BCCI treasurer Ajay Shirke and a retired High Court judge will be part of the committee, Gavaskar said he was not aware of the same but pointed out public perception should not be influenced by media trials.
Gavaskar pointed out that public is already treating them as a guilty when the case is not even crystal clear till now. He was quoted by Indian Express saying, "This case has been discussed in public and they had already perceived the guilty party. At the end of the day, even if five people outside the cricket Board and they decided that this thing wasn't what the public wanted, perception would be that pressure was brought on," said Gavaskar.
