Rajiv Shukla is ready to step down from the post of IPL Commissioner from the next edition of Indian Premier League. He said that IPL has been afflicted quite badly after the charges of spot-fixing on some of the players and the chain of controversies that are following it up in the past two weeks or so.
Shukla was quoted by Indian Express saying,” IPL Chief is a one-year post which gets renewed every year in the AGM but I don't intend to do the job for a third year. I am not craving for any position in the BCCI, my job was to organise the matches and the matches were well organised. The stadiums were packed irrespective of the controversies.”
His decision has surely added certain amount of pressure on BCCI Chief, N Srinivasan, who is not ready to quit as he has done nothing wrong.
He made it quite clear that he has never been a power hungry man and was quoted by Hindustan Times saying, "I have not been in a race of showing my power, I took it up as a challenge when I got the opportunity to be an IPL commissioner. I had done justice to my ability. Discussion among BCCI members had already taken place and our immediate concern is to protect the image of BCCI and Indian cricket.”
Shukla was quoted by DNA saying, "Players who will take any such steps of fixing or anything that hurts the sentiments of cricket fans, it's just cannot be tolerated. These few rotten eggs has spoiled not just the reputation of their franchises but alos of each and every player who participates in IPL."
He added, "Keeping an eye on bookies is the job of police. The second suggestion which I has been accepted already is that one ACSU official should be attached with each team throughout the tournament because he will be able to make out which is a rotten egg in the entire basket."
"Players should be punished by introducing some strict laws as well as in their contract it should be made clear that anyone found guilty of such crimes should be legally tackled," he concluded.
