Sreesanth returns home to a hero's welcome, says his arrest was part of a conspiracy

Two years ago, he returned home to a hero’s welcome after winning the World Cup. On Wednesday, despite coming under the spot-fixing cloud in the IPL and spending 27 days in jail, Sreesanth was given a warm and comforting reception when he came back home here from Delhi, says a report in The Hindu.

Friends garlanded him and sweets were distributed when he landed at his sister’s house at Tripunithura. And there were affectionate hugs from his parents, Savithri Devi and Shanthakumaran Nair.

“I think the arrest was part of a conspiracy… it will come out soon,” said the 30-year-old former Indian fast bowler. “I have full faith that only good will come out of this.”

He said he was trying to push away memories of the harrowing days he had spent at the Tihar jail. “I’m trying to forget the last 27 days. I don’t want even my enemies to go to jail, it was such an experience at the Tihar jail,” he said. “[I] am very happy to come back home. I don’t want to have an experience like that again.”

According to a report in The Times Of India, claiming innocence and expressing faith in the judiciary, India Test pacer S Sreesanth, who was released on bail after being arrested for alleged involvement in the IPL spot-fixing scandal, on Wednesday said he is hopeful of making a comeback to the national side.

"I promise you I will never give up," Sreesanth, who is out on bail after spending 27 days in the Tihar Jail, said upon his return to his hometown.

"My dream obviously is to play cricket. All I want to do is to play cricket and get back into the team... It is a dream to play in the South African tour series. But I am not sure about it now," he told reporters soon after meeting his parents and relatives at nearby Tripunithura.

According to a report in Calcutta Telegraph, asked if he had any links with Dawood Ibrahim’s gang, Sreesanth said: “I don’t have anything to say about it, brother.”

When a reporter asked if he had been “trapped”, the cricketer said: “I know I was arrested as part of a conspiracy and it will for sure come out.”

The Kerala pacer said playing in the South Africa series later this year was his “ultimate goal”. He, however, added that such a possibility was “really doubtful now”.
