Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly on Sunday said, Sachin Tendulkar should play as long as he wants, says a report in The Times Of India, adding that there is a lot of buzz that Tendulkar, who will turn 40 next month, may have played his last Test on Indian soil.
“Ganguly emphasized that MS Dhoni should continue his captaincy till the next World Cup in all formats as the team needs a solid figure who can anchor the team,” says the report.
Ganguly said to that, "Sachin should take a call on his retirement and if he feels that his reflexes are still good enough then he should continue for as long as he is fit. It was Tendulkar who came up with a brilliant half-century and took the team out of a difficult situation which went on to change the complexion of the game.”
India won the fourth and last Test by six wickets to clinch the four-match series with a historic 4-0 triumph and win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
According to a report in Indian Express, Ganguly said, "India played really well and this is what is reflected in the result which is very well deserved. Indian team worked as a unit and result is what we expected. I hope they grow from strength to strength and do well in foreign conditions in upcoming tours later this year.".
“Chetashwar Pujara has made 134 runs - 52 and 82 not out - on a difficult spinning track. For me, the man of the match is Pujara. I am again repeating myself, that Australian batsman are not playing the ball at it merits which is why they are looking helpless. If Peter Siddle can apply himself and score two half-centuries in a match then why can’ their top-order batsmen," Prince of Kolkata told a regional TV channel.
Ganguly also believed that it's not yet over for senior opener Virender Sehwag who was dropped after the second Test. "Sehwag will make it to the South-Africa. His experience on foreign-soil makes him resourceful. Selectors are also trying out Ajinkya Rahane but he is looked as middle-order prospect and not as an opening batsman," he said.
