Upset Ranatunga asks Sri-Lankan players to walk-off from IPL

Former Sri Lankan captain Arjuna Ranatunga has expressed his disappointment and has asked the Sri-Lankan players to walk-off from the cricket’s biggest affair Indian Premier League after IPL’s governing council came out with a decision of not allowing the Lankans to play in Chennai.

According to the reports in The Hindu, former Sri-Lankan captain was quoted saying, "The decision of IPL governing council is very heart-breaking and If our players are not allowed to play on a certain venue then it would be better that Sri-Lankan players should skip the tournament because this is not a warm-gesture on India’s part."

"There are some tensions between the two countries. It’s better that Lankan players should address it and take some tough decisions.”

As per the recent reports of Indian Express, Ranatunga was quoted saying, “IPL council knew that this question will have some kind of impact on the relations so they should have moved away the matches from Chennai. But this is political stunt that they are doing and hurting the spirit of the game.”

On Tuesday, Tamil Nadu chief-minister Jayalalithaa took a firm stand against the participation of Sri-Lankan players and made it clear that letting them participate will hurt their sentiments.
