Nayar to lead Mumbai in Irani Cup, says it’s learning phase for him

Abhishek Nayar, who impressed the national selector with his top class all-round performances, is geared up to take captaincy of Mumbai in Irani trophy. Due to the groin injury, Ajit Agarkar has been ruled out and now responsibility of leading Mumbai has come to the budding cricketer.

Nayar has been in the best of form in this Ranji season and that is a prime factor why he ended up making big money in the auction of IPL-6. According to the reports published in Deccan Chronicle, Nayar was quoted saying that,” It’s a very rare opportunity to lead Mumbai and I am looking forward to it. It’s going to be a great learning when players like Sachin, Rohit and Ajinkya are on the field to help you out in the tough times and that will surely take away some pressure off my shoulder.”


Nayar who has outplayed many star performers this season by piling up 966 runs and picking up 19 wickets and made sure that the national selectors should give him a fair chance. He has already been included in India –A team which will play practice match against Australia in the span of a week.


As per the reports of Times of India, Nayar was quoted saying,” In the absence of Zaheer khan and Ajit Agarkar our bowling attack looks very thin. But all the four young bowlers in the team are ready to fill in their boots and make sure Mumbai wins this match.”


He added, “I have played Irani trophy twice or thrice but I would love to win it this time and winning it as a captain will be the icing on the cake for me. This time we will focus on doing the right things at right time.”
