I feel there are better wicketkeeper-batsmen than Dhoni in the country: Amarnath

Former Indian selector Mohinder Amarnath criticised the India skipper, saying Dhoni is nobody to decide about his future in the team, says a report in the DNA.

“Who is Dhoni to decide about his future as a player and not as skipper? It is the selectors’ job to decide whether he will be in the team or not,” Amarnath said.

“I have nothing against him but tell me, what has Dhoni done in the past one year after winning the World Cup? Unfortunately, he has been in the team only on past records,” he added.

Amarnath said that there are better wicketkeepers in Indian then Dhoni, “A wicketkeeper-batsman stands more than 30 yards away from the bowler and other fielders, so how can he communicate with them? Moreover, I feel there are better wicketkeeper-batsmen than Dhoni in the country,” he said.

Former Indian captain Dilip Vengsarkar agreed with Amarnath, he said, “It is not his call. There are selectors, who are there to take such calls.”

Meanwhile, The Indian Express report said that both Amarnath and Vengsarkar agreed that Sachin Tendulkar though still a formidable force in the team.

“Age catches up with everyone and he is no exception. While he still scores runs, the speed with which he does has reduced. Personally, I feel the quicker he retires the better it is,” said Amarnath.

Vengsarkar said, “He wasn’t even been there for the first three games prior to the tests. We do not know the exact nature of his contract with the Board but he is not even looking at players from the domestic league. Ironically with India, a white-skinned person is always preferred over a local but so far he has not delivered.”
