We can just hope that something happens, only God can help us now: Sehwag

Virender Sehwag said that the team suffered a debacle because of lack of patience shown by the batsmen, says a report in The Hindu.

“Their batsmen showed more patience than us. They batted really well. Full credit goes to the way (Alastair) Cook and others tackled the Indian bowlers,” he said.

Sehwag said that team’s batting performance was disappointed, “Losing six wickets in a session (after lunch) is very disappointing. The wicket was not that bad to lose six wickets in a session,” Sehwag said.

“But now we have to work hard to bounce back in the next game. We can just hope that something happens tomorrow and we are able to draw the present Test. Only God can help us,” Sehwag added.

On a brilliant knock from Indian spinner R Ashwin said, “You cannot call it an embarrassment. He is also a part of our team and he knows how to score runs. It is nice to see how he is utilising his talent.”

On the pitch he said, “If you apply yourself on this wicket, it is not that difficult to score runs. It is Test cricket and you have to show some patience, which is the key.”

Meanwhile, the DNA report quoted Sehwag saying that India mustn’t hurry a judgement on the youngsters.

“When (Cheteshwar) Pujara scored runs, a double hundred and a hundred, you guys (the media) only said we have found a replacement for Rahul Dravid. You didn’t wait for a couple of matches. Now you are saying that because Rahul Dravid and (VVS) Laxman are not there we are losing. It is a transition period for us, you have to give time to the youngsters,” Sehwag said.

On playing in the middle-order, he said, “Yuvraj Singh has played 40 Tests, Virat Kohli has played 13. He has been playing international cricket for two to three years. He got that ICC Cricketer of the Year (award) and the BCCI award. He is mature enough. It’s not about new and young.”
