Ashwin ready for Pietersen challenge, says he will counter switch hits

Ravichandran Ashwin has been India’s main spinner for quite some time now and has won two man of the series award at home against West Indies and New Zealand. But now up against he will go have to bowl really well against England to keep his reputation intact and his real test will against Kevin Peitersen who possesses the quality of using his array of shots to unsettle spinners, especially his switch hits.

Ashwin is aware of the danger and says that he is ready to counter Peitersen and is ready to counter him.

In an interview to The Indian Express, he said, “If Pietersen does that in a Test match against me I will be very happy because I can put fielders where I want to in a Test and that is not the case in ODIs or T20s. If he is courageous to play the switch-hit then I am also ready to take him on. If Pietersen does manage to pull it off in this series his efforts will have to be appreciated.”

Talking about England’s batsmen as a whole he said, “England’s top six batsmen are extremely experienced and we have to give them their due and give them respect. They will have plans to counter our bowling. Bowling to batsmen like Trott, Bell and Pietersen will be a challenge. I know that if I rise to the challenge and deliver in this series I can take my game to the next level.”
