Delhi coach Vijay Dahiya said that he has enough back-up to replace the big starts who will leave the squad for the England Test series, says a report in The DNA.
Delhi despite having the players like Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli lost the match against UP.
"It is always an advantage having the likes of Sehwag, Gambhir and Kohli in the team but we have a good middle-order that we can depend on. Mithun Manhas and Puneet Bisht have looked very good. We have the back-up," said Dahiya.
“Importantly, Shikhar Dhawan will also be back for us for the upcoming matches and he has been very consistent so far and performing well. So with Sehwag and others going away, I don’t think it will matter much. We have good enough back-up,” he added.
Dahiya said that he is not worried about his batsmen’s form.
“I am not too concerned about the form of the batsmen. We have some really experienced guys out here and they are very good cricketers. It is the shot selection I am worried about. During this match, most of our batsmen looked in touch but wrong shots on the wrong balls cost them their wickets. Otherwise technique wise, there is no issue.”
Meanwhile, The Times of India reports that Sehwag batted like a champion but his efforts went in vain as UP defeated Delhi by six wickets.
“UP did get two early wickets in the morning, but failed to dislodge Sehwag quick enough. The India opener, who was batting at number six due to a finger injury, batted like only he can, hammering boundaries at will. He and Pradeep Sangwan put on 85 for the seventh wicket, but more importantly, Sehwag stayed at the wicket for over two hours. Just as things were getting desperate for UP, Sangwan perished to Imtiaz Ahmed. Sehwag, thereafter, threw caution to the wind and raced away to his century. After his dismissal, the innings terminated soon at 322, some 25 minutes after lunch," says the report.
