Ghaziabad: Delhi coach Vijay Dahiya said that Virender Sehwag has got stitches on his index finger due to an injury but added that it is not a serious cause of concern, says a report in The Times of India.
Sehwag got injured while fielding during the UP innings in the Ranji Trophy.
"He got the cut yesterday while fielding. But it is nothing to worry about. He looks in good form. He batted well for an hour and a half," Dahiya said.
"Well, he needed time for his injury to heal. He was taking time out as a precaution and hence did not field during the Uttar Pradesh innings or open the Delhi innings. We let the other batsmen go in early as he had got a few stitches on his index finger," he added.
Meanwhile, The Hindustan Times reports that Sehwag came out to bat at No 6 sometime after tea in a bid to rescue Delhi, who then trailed by 22 runs in the Ranji opener.
“On Monday, the last day of the tie, a composed Sehwag (21 not out), willing to pick the right length and line, will be needed to help Delhi avert defeat and make a statement about his form and fitness. His seasoned partner Mithun Manhas, batting brilliantly on 63 (10 fours) is the other hope Delhi have. Sehwag did alright in the limited time he got at the wicket, driving Praveen Kumar through covers for four and then steering Suresh Raina for two fours. After the Gambhir-orchestrated turnaround on Saturday, Delhi were expected to mop up the UP tail early, and face a small first innings lead. However, UP's last two wickets put on 80,” says the report.
