There are three very good players vying for number 6 spot, but I think Yuvi will get the nod: Ganguly

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly said that Yuvraj Singh is likely to take the No 6 spot in the Test side, says a report in The DNA.

“It’s going to be a tough choice. There are three very good players vying for that one spot. Yuvraj, (Suresh) Raina and (Manoj) Tiwary are all good batsmen and it’s upto the selectors. But I think Yuvi will get the nod,” Ganguly said.

On whether he thinks that Yuvraj is fit for five day cricket, he said, “Physically, yes. He just scored a double hundred in the Duleep Trophy and a fifty against England. He even got a five-wicket haul. His bowling gives him that edge.”

Meanwhile, Mail Today reports that Yuvraj Singh’s mother said that it is for the selectors to take a call on Yuvraj’s fitness.

Earlier Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said that Yuvraj’s chances of selection in the Test side will depend on whether he can deal with the rigours of Test cricket.

"We have to understand that the five-day format has its own uncertainties, unlike ODIs or T20s. In Test cricket, there may be a situation that a team might bat for one-anda-half to two days. We have to assess whether Yuvraj is ready to field for two days," Dhoni said.
The report quoted Shabnam Singh saying, "He has worked hard on his fitness and the results are showing."
