Sachin Tendulkar scored a fabulous hundred for Mumbai against Railways to return to form and England captain Alastair Cook said that they are wary of him, says a report in The Indian Express.
"We are certainly not writing Tendulkar off," Cook said.
“Tendulkar, in Mumbai colours after three years, came in at no 5 and batted fluently after starting cautiously against a largely inexperienced bowling attack to reach his hundred off 103 balls with 14 fours and 3 sixes,” says the report.
England’s leading spinner Graeme Swann said that he would have loved to see Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly in the Indian squad.
"I would love Dravid and Ganguly still to be playing," Swann said.
Meanwhile, The Times of India reports that Indian Test openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir failed on the same day when aspiring opener Ajinkya Rahane scored a century.
“Rahane's growing confidence as a batsman had begun to reflect in the previous season itself when he had perched himself as one of the leading run-getters in Ranji Trophy. The year 2012 so far, all formats included, has only been an improved effort to raise his hand consistently for Team India selection,” says the report.
The report said that Rahane’s century served many purpose. “He gave his senior ample time in the middle as part of his attempt to warm up for the England series, and then using the space available to get his own century, a patient 105 off 207 balls, inclusive of 13 boundaries.,” the report said.
