Sourav Ganguly’s to the point comments reminds me of John McEnroe: John Wright

Former Indian coach John Wright said that Sourav Ganguly's television commentary reminds him of tennis superstar John McEnroe, says a report in The Indian Express.

"He is 40 and is doing a good job as a commentator. His direct, to the point comments reminds me of John McEnroe. I'm interested to see more of him. He is doing really well," Wright said.

Remembering his time as India’s coach, Wright said, “That was a fantastic time (in Indian cricket). We challenged each other. We had endlesss debates, there were times when we agreed and disagreed. We all were passionate about working together.”

"In Sachin, Dravid, Srinath, Kumble, VVS, Harbhajan Singh, we had a group of players who had the desire to become world-class cricketers," he added.

Meanwhile, The Times of India reports Wright saying that he was not in favour of having different Indian captains for different formats.

"Specialisation is a good thing but if the current captain is good enough to play all the formats, then I do not think there is a need for a having different captains," Wright said.

"Though such an idea has been implemented successfully before, including in India, I believe having a single captain makes things simpler," he added.

"I am a traditionalist, a bit too old fashioned. I like Test matches being played during the day. I think they have done this to attract wider viewership but I do not like the idea. Maybe I am behind times," said Wright.
