Sachin opting to play in Ranji Trophy shows how committed he is to the game: Adam Gilchrist

Legendary wicket-keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist said that it is up Sachin Tendulkar to take a call regarding his career, says a report in The Hindu.

“If you are up for 23 years, at some point of time there will be troughs. I am sure he is aware that he is not at the peak of his career and it is up to him to decide,” he said.

On Sachin appearing for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy he said, ““I have read news reports about him playing a Ranji game at the end of this week, his first one in three-four years. The fact that he wanted to go and take that as preparation for the Tests coming up shows how committed he is to the game.”

On the upcoming India-England series and the comeback of Kevin Pietersen, Gilchrist said, “Kevin Pietersen is one of the top batsmen in the world. England will be better off with him in the side. Cricket is not only about skill, it is also about relationship in a group and it is up to the team to ensure that all relationships are directed towards a common goal. Kevin and England will have to address that.”

Meanwhile, the DNA reports that Gilchrist feels that the honor of giving Sachin Membership of the Order of Australia was a recognition of the respect Tendulkar receives in Australia.

"The discussion around his award and the variety of opinion shows the amazing profile that Tendulkar has. Credit to Sachin to have the place he has held in both the countries. He has forged 22-years of relation between the two countries," he said.

“I was able to send him a quick message and was thrilled to receive one back (from him) saying 'welcome to the club', because it was the same honour that I was very fortunate to receive. It (the award) is a mark of respect to a great man," he added.
