Yuvraj Singh became an inspirational for millions when he not only fought cancer but also made a successful comeback in the shortest format of the game in the recently concluded World T20 Cup. The southpaw has now set his sights on making it to the Indian Test squad for the upcoming home series against England.
Yuvraj, who is all set to take to the field for North Zone in the semi-finals of Duleep Trophy in Hyderabad, said that with time his body is regaining strength, stamina and endurance, says a report in Hindustan Times.
"Technically, I have three four-day matches before the team for England series is announced. I think that will be enough for me to stake my claim," said the southpaw, who made a comeback in September after recovering from a rare germ cell cancer.
The series against England, which starts from mid-November, features four Test matches followed by two T20 games before the visitors head home for a new year break only to come back in January for a five-match ODI series.
"Duleep Trophy matches will be very important for me as it will be a good preparation before England tour. I am looking forward to these matches and if I perform consistently I can get back into the Test team. It will be difficult playing the longer version of the game but I am confident I'll last the duration," Yuvraj said on Thursday, adding his left-arm spin will be a bonus, according to a report in The Times Of India.
"I am also going to focus on my bowling too and look forward to make it to the Indian team as an all-rounder, not just a specialist batsman. I am fairly satisfied with my performance during the T20 World Championship. But in the final Super 8 game against South Africa I was in good form and should have stayed at the crease," the southpaw said.
Yuvraj has three matches -- four if North reach Duleep final -- along with two rounds of Ranji Trophy games to impress the selectors before they announce the squad for the England series.
