Sunil Chhetri makes debut for Sporting Clube de Portugal in Portuguese 2nd division league

Indian football captain Sunil Chhetri made debut for his side Sporting Clube de Portugal in Portuguese second division league against SC Freamunde in an away match, says a report in The Times of India.

Chhetri came in as a late substitute and played only the last five minutes of the match. His side, Sporting Clube de Portugal beat their opponents 2-0.

With the win, Sporting Clube de Portugal, also known as Sporting Lisbon, moved to second place in the Liga de Honra (second division) league table behind Belenenses Lisbon.


Meanwhile, The Hindu reports that it was an uneventful first game for striker Sunil Chhetri as he was on the field from the 85th minute till the end and he could not do much.

The report says that Chhetri played for Sporting Clube de Portugal reserve side during the pre-season before he was in India for the Nehru Cup.
